a foiled plan

In January, I wrote that I was planning to continue with calisthenics training. But, only a couple of weeks later, I suffered a major shoulder injury - a partial dislocation, or subluxation, as it's called. I was in a handstand hold and as I felt myself starting to fall out of it, I tried to stabilise by walking back on my hands. I felt the ball of the shoulder slip out of the socket and then back in.

It turns out that shoulder injuries are very slow to heal. It's been about five months since it happened and, while I've made progress, it still seems a long way to a full recovery. I have never had any kind of lasting injury before, so the experience has been unfamiliar.

One thing that an injury teaches you is that plans, for all their good intentions, are only plans. We cannot make guarantees.
