focus for 2026
January seems to have come around very quickly, and now it's that time where I try and think about what I'd like to happen in my 2026.
Like last year, I want to choose only a few things to focus on. These aren't so much goals or resolutions - more like a series of directions:
The first one is easy because it's something I never found the time for last year, so I'm just carrying it over. I want to start learning Japanese again. It's something I've wanted to do forever and it feels like I'm finally ready to ramp things up. JLPT tests are organised a few times a year - I would like to pass the JLPT N5, and perhaps begin to study for the JLPT N4.
Last year, I returned to psychoanalysis as a topic for serious study. This year, I don't want to prescribe anything so narrow. I want to continue to read more, but I'd like to just let my interests guide me. The commitment to read should hopefully effect a good pace, and I'll see where the march takes me.
I want to continue to keep improving my physical fitness. Now that I'm regularly training in calisthenics, I'd like to focus on strength, control, and flexibility. This is deliberately open-ended - I'm not committing to any one practice yet - but, whichever way I go, I want the emphasis to be less on performance and more on connection with the body.
There are other things I'd like to explore as well, but these should be plenty enough to be getting on with.
